2014 International Tea Symposium Held in Hangzhou

2014 International Tea Symposium (2014ITS), with the theme “Innovation and Development”, was successfully held, November 10-13, 2014 in Hangzhou, China. The Symposium is organized by the Tea Research Institute, CAAS and the China Tea Science Society. More than 300 representatives from 18 countries, including directors and leading scientists from national tea research institutes, universities, and tea companies attended the Symposium.

This Symposium aimed at sharing information and experience in tea science and technology, as well as promoting partnerships among tea research institutes from different countries. Scientists and experts around the world congregated to exchange ideas, innovations, and scientific research that will lead to future progress in tea industry.

The Symposium started with four keynote speeches focusing on tea pest control, tea and chronic diseases, the impacts of climate change on tea production, and the chemistry and biochemistry of tea. World and Country reports of current tea production & research status from FAO and 12 countries were delivered by directors of tea research institutes from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey and China. During the academic sessions, experts on tea breeding and cultivation, tea pests and diseases control, tea and human health, tea biochemical and processing, tea economics and culture shared the latest innovation and research achievements with the participants.
