CAAS President Prof. Tang Huajun Meets with Minister of Agriculture of Belgium

On January 31st 2018, Prof. Tang Huajun, President of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), met with Mr. Denis Ducarme, the Minister of Agriculture of Belgium. The two sides had in-depth discussion on topics of common interests. Prof. Wu Kongming, the Vice President of CAAS, Mr. Marc Vinck, the Belgium ambassador to China and the Chief of Federal Bureau of Food Safety Belgium attended the meeting.
Prof. Tang welcomed Minister Ducarme’s visit, he noted that China and Belgium have been enjoying long standing friendly relationship. Belgium is among these countries that established partnership with China at the earliest date. There are a large number of experts, researchers as well as students who had ever studied in Belgian Universities such as Gent University, Liege University. Over the decades, the two sides have conducted cooperation in technology and talent cultivation, which had laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. Belgian agriculture is famous for its unique characteristic. There is a great potential for the two sides to carry out cooperation in the management of natural resources, plant protection, animal husbandry and veterinary, agricultural biotechnology, agricultural remote sensing, food quality and safety, climate change, environment and sustainable development as well as post graduate education and capacity building. We believed that the win-win cooperation in agricultural science and technology will be more productive in the future taking advantage of the existing cooperation projects and mechanism.
Minister Ducarme expressed his hope to continue pushing forward the cooperation in the field of food, environmental protection, education, and talent cultivation hand in hand with the Ministry of Agriculture of China (MOA) and CAAS based on the existing cooperation.
During his stay, Minister Ducarme also visited the CAAS National Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park and the National Gene Bank.
Dr. Gong Xifeng, the Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS (DIC), Dr. Zhang Huijie, the Deputy Director General of DIC, Dr. Jin Ke, the Deputy Director General of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of CAAS, Dr. Luo Changfu, the Vice Dean of the Graduate School of CAAS, Dr. Su Xiaoou, the Deputy Director General of the Institute of Quality Standards and Testing Technology for Agro-products of CAAS, Dr. Lu Tiegang, the Deputy Director General of the Biotechnology Research Institute of CAAS attended the meeting as well.
