Zhang pointed out,"in recent years, agricultural science and technology in China has been greatly developed, which has led the reform of modern agricultural industry and improved its quality and efficiency. CAAS, as the national team of agricultural science and technology research, in order to realize the leap-forward development of agricultural S & T, is carrying out ten scientific and technological innovation plans to ensure grain production and food security as its priorities, and has carried out researches and breakthroughs in many fields such as animal and plant disease prevention and control, agricultural green technology research and development, international scientific program and so on.”

Zhang said that under the support and guidance of CAEA and IAEA, CAAS has made great progress in the field of agricultural nuclear techniques. He expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the cooperation with the IAEA and showed full confidence in the prospects for future cooperation.

Zhang mentioned that Dr. Tang Huajun, President of CAAS, recently led a delegation visiting to the headquarters of IAEA and signed the agreement on“CAAS-IAEA Collaborating Center". The official start-up of the center will further promote the nuclear scientific and technological application in agriculture research in China or even in the Asia-Pacific region, and play an effective role in promoting sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas with agricultural nuclear technique innovation.

Mokhtar highly praised the 54-year partnership established between CAAS and IAEA in nuclear science and technology research and applications to improve agriculture production. She said that the official launch of the collaborating center marked a new strategic partnership between the two parties. Then the huge potential of nuclear technology will be further released through this platform, and sustainable agricultural production will be promoted to benefit the entire Asia-Pacific region.
